How does it feel to be a professional designer: A little weird — I never thought about being a designer while I was studying economics and finances at the university. I am happy I discovered the graphic design and web design programs at Parkland.
How do you like your job: It is very satisfying — it feels so good to do what I enjoy doing.

How did you get this job: Newspaper ad and interviewing skills.
What was the most exciting project you’ve worked on since graduation: I’m working on it now. It’s a logo design for a beauty salon for a client in Chicago. I also do book covers as a freelancer, and always enjoy working on books with non-descript titles (i.e. Legal Liability and Recreation and Sports). What’s up with that title?

    Graphic Design Career Opportunities
If you enjoy creative problem solving, working on computers or have a flair for communication, then graphic design may be the career path to a successful future.
    What is graphic design?
Graphic design is creative visual problem solving. Graphic designers are digital media artists who create dynamic visual communication that help solve their clients' marketing problems. Designers combine type and images using digital tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign to create commercial art such as:

    Employment opportunities

Graphic designers work in just about every industry imaginable including advertising, publishing, entertainment, technology, finance, health, education, and more. Many designers work in advertising agencies, design firms or in-house marketing departments. About one out of three designers are self-employed working as freelance graphic designers or own their own design studio.
Being a successful graphic designer requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, creativity, problem solving skills, and up-to-date knowledge of the latest software. Creating an impressive design portfolio is critical in order to obtain employment.
An associates degree may be sufficient to obtain employment in Champaign-Urbana and other smaller markets. However, a bachelors degree is required if you are planning to work in larger urban markets like Chicago, New York or San Francisco.
